About and FAQs

Basic First Aid knowledge is invaluable for parents, grandparents, carers and others. Our Baby and Child First Aid sessions aim to prepare parents and others to deal confidently with common childhood emergencies as listed below. This is not a certified First Aid Course; it aims to provide practical guidance and confidence to handle emergency situations. The workshop uses demonstrations, videos, quizzes and discussion. It is hands on and we will use specifically designed baby & child mannequins to practise CPR. The session will be 2.5 hours long and included in this timing will be on opportunity to ask Tammy any questions whilst enjoying tea and biscuits. You will also receive follow up information after the workshop. Your facilitator will be Tammy, who is trained in paediatric first aid & having raised 7 children, she has had some practise with common childhood ailments! Please note babes in arms are welcome but we can't accommodate remotely mobile babies; this is because some of the workshop equipment is small and can get scattered around the group room and therefore we feel it is risky for babies who are mobile to join. WHAT IS COVERED IN THE WORKSHOP? DR ABC – Prioritising treatment Basic life support (CPR) for baby/child (0-18 years) Treatment of a choking baby/child (0-18 years) Discussion of gagging -vs- choking in a baby. Burns and scalds Childhood illness, eg, Febrile convulsions, asthma, meningitis. Anaphylaxis (allergy, stings etc) Treatment of wounds and severe bleeding First aid kit – Contents. WHAT CAN I EXPECT? The course will usually run on a Saturday morning each month. The first half of the session covers CPR and choking & practise on the mannequins. The second half moves on to common childhood first aid situations & signs that your baby is unwell. There is a break half-way through the workshop for participants to make a cup of tea & have a biscuit. CAN I BOOK A GROUP SESSION? Yes, we are able to offer private Baby First Aid workshops if you are a small group (up to eight) and wish to take part in the course together. Dates and prices can be discussed directly with the PPC by contacting the office by email.
